Got Questions?

You got questions? I got answers.

Here are some of the most popular questions that I hear ALL the time:

Q: I’m not sure if this will work because I feel like I need a lot of personal attention. Will I get that from Helping Writers Write?

A: With Helping Writers Write not only will you receive a personalized writing plan, but everyone who signs a contract has access to minute mail and coaching by phone, during designated office hours.

Q: I get easily discouraged. How can you help with that?

A: As your writing coach, I will motivate you and help you become more confident as a writer as we move through the writing process together.

Q: How can I be an author when my writing stinks?

A: Everyone is not a naturally gifted writer, but with practice and the right editor, your writing will greatly improve and be ready for publication.

Q: What happens if no one buys my book?

A: Unless your book debuts as a New York Times best-seller, you will probably NOT sell millions of books. However, you will sell the amount that is equal to your marketing efforts. The more you grind, the more you'll sell.

Nonetheless, the “real” money for authors is in creating a platform, public speaking, and developing a following, but you need a book first.

Q: I’m unknown. What if people think I’m not qualified?

A: Qualification is relative. Who is better to tell your story than you? Absolutely no one. Self-doubt will creep up and say that you are not qualified, but that's not true. Your desire to share your story qualifies you, and there is someone out there who needs to hear it, so their life can change.

Q: I don’t have money for a writing coach. Can I do it by myself?

A: The honest answer is YES. Yes, you can do it by yourself, but your first-time writing, editing and self-publishing your book will likely result in either a prolonged journey that is laced with discouragement or a level of frustration that will cause you to quit.

It can be done for sure, I've done it, but in hindsight, I could have eliminated a lot of wasted money, time, and effort if I had a coach. A writing coach is an investment in you, your project, and your future.

Q: I don’t have a lot of free time. How much time will this take?

A: Just like anything else, it all depends on what you put into it. I will say this, when I was writing my memoir Five Loves: Stories of Misguided Love, Lust, and Betrayal, it took me much longer than it needed to because I had no real structure or plan. If you are 100% committed to the process, your time will be spent wisely, and your book will be completed sooner than it would without any help.

Q: It’s been done before, why would anyone want to read my book?

A: Even if your story has been told before, it was not told from your perspective. Only you can tell your story in your voice, with your nuances. Someone else cannot bring it to life with the same flair and passion as you can. Whether you’re telling a healing story from your personal life experience or creating a technical manual, your perspective is unique.

Q: I’ve spent money on my book before and it still isn’t published. Why is this time different?

A: Actually, it all depends on what you spent money on. Without a plan, you could easily be bamboozled by the first one-size-fits-all offer promising to help you get it done. When writing and publishing a book there are many moving parts. With Helping Writers Write you get a customized plan, solely based on your specific needs, and where you are in the process. You only spend money on what you need.

Q: I’m not sure where to start. What comes first?

A: As with any SUCCESSFUL endeavor, the first thing you need is a plan. Helping Writers Write has been successful in helping writers create a do-able plan that takes them from an idea to a well written, fully edited, professional manuscript that’s ready for publication.
